Assistant Supervisor for Dr. Doug McPhee, PhD, LMFT
Program Chair and Clinical Director of the Olson Clinic at Mount Mercy University
Practicum meets on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:00pm
Dyadic supervision is held at various times. This practicum is designed for students who work traditional full-time hours, or for students who need an evening practicum due to childcare challenges. So, we tend to be flexible in identifying a time that will work for the particular dyad; however, once a time is set, the established time tends to stay consistent throughout the practicum period.
Dr. McPhee's major theoretical orientation: Of course, I supervise students in my practicum in a way that is aligned with whatever model they are trying to utilize. However, my primary theoretical orientation is contextual family therapy.
Kalen's major theoretical orientation: My approach to therapy is postmodern, but this won't apply to all the therapists I supervise. As a supervisor, I see my role as helping student therapists navigate working with clients using whatever model they align with and helping to identify student's existing strengths and integrate them into therapeutic practice.
